Spotlight Technique with Captivating Floral Swag

Hello Crafty Friends!

Today I’m sharing a card I made using the Captivating Floral Swag stamp set and stencils from Altenew—what a gorgeous set!

I decided to revisit an old favorite technique: spotlighting. It’s been a while since I’ve used it, but I always love how simple yet striking the results can be.

To create this look, I started by stamping the floral swag image onto two panels of cardstock. A stamp positioner is super helpful here to make sure everything lines up perfectly. I colored one of the panels using the coordinating stencils, then die-cut a rectangle from the center of the colored panel.

The magic happens when you layer that colored piece over the black and white stamped panel—the full image comes together, with the pop of color in the center stealing the show. That’s the “spotlight!”

You often see this technique done with circles, but you can use any shape you like. Rectangles, hearts, even tags—it’s a fun way to change things up.

Give it a try if you haven’t in a while. It's such a fun technique to bring back into your crafty rotation!

Happy Crafting,
Lisa
