Color Hues Challenge
Hello Craft Friends!
I’m so excited to be a Guest Designer today over on the Color Hues Challenge Blog! The challenge colors this round are orange and green—a pair I don’t usually reach for. But that’s the beauty of a challenge, right? It encourages us to step outside our comfort zones.
When I saw the colors, my first thought was flowers, and Altenew’s Build-a-Garden: Rose Reverie bundle turned out to be the perfect choice.
Creating this card:
Stamping the Roses
Start with a piece of white cardstock in your stamping platform. Stamp the rose image in a light neutral ink (I used a light tan I had on hand). Keep the stamp in place—you’ll come back to it later.Adding Color
Use the coordinating stencils to blend color onto the petals:Sunray, Chamomile, and Snapdragon inks for the roses
Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, and Evergreen inks for the leaves
Concentrate the darker shades at the base of the petals/leaves and leave the tips lighter for natural depth.
Outlining & Die Cutting
Re-stamp the rose outline in Obsidian Black ink for crisp detail, then die cut the image.Creating the Background
Emboss a 4-1/4" x 5" piece of white cardstock with a 3D embossing folder, and adhere it to a side-fold card base.Assembling the Card
Pop the rose up with foam tape for dimension.
Stamp and die cut your sentiment, then adhere it to finish the design.
I love how these bright, bold roses turned out—even in colors I don’t normally use!
